ISTD hosted a group of 24 pre-university students who were selected from an online programming assessment test for the inaugural one-day Design Innovation Computing workshop at SUTD campus. The students, who had applied for admission to SUTD this year and demonstrated computing aptitude, were invited to take part in this special selection to be considered for module exemption and attractive scholarship/awards; or for university admission.
Design Innovation for Computing Workshop introduces participants to design thinking and how to apply them to build an innovative software. Participants are introduced to techniques to create user personas and user stories. Moreover, participants learn some web frameworks for quick software prototyping, test-driven development, pair programming and how to use Git for collaborative work. Topics covered include:
- Double Diamond Design Process
- Users and Stakeholders
- Creating User Personas
- Creating User Stories
- Low Fidelity Prototype and Storyboard
- Writing Features and Scenarios
- Testing Features using Scenarios
- How to use Github
- Flask web framework
- Pair programming
- Test driven development
Special thanks to our faculty Oka, Norman and Ngai-Man who had spent time over the weekend to conduct the classes.
