Abstract
In this talk, we will delve into my personal journey as a UX designer, highlighting the essential design processes that drive successful projects. We will discuss the myriad opportunities available in the field, from emerging technologies to innovative methodologies, and how these can shape your career trajectory. To enrich our discussion, I am excited to introduce my colleague, a seasoned UX researcher, who will present for 15-20 minutes on the UX research process. He will cover key methodologies, tools, and techniques used to gather user insights that inform design decisions.
Understanding the research phase is crucial for any aspiring designer, as it lays the foundation for creating user-centred solutions that resonate with real-world audiences. The transition from academia to industry is not without its challenges. I will candidly address common gaps that many graduates face, including practical skills, real-world problem-solving, and collaboration within multidisciplinary teams. By sharing insights and strategies for overcoming these hurdles, I aim to equip you with the knowledge and confidence needed to thrive in your future careers. I will conduct a thought-provoking discussion that will inspire you to embrace the complexities of UX design and prepare for a fulfilling professional journey. Samath is currently serving Zuellig Pharma across South Asia as the Principal Designer. He is a UI/UX industry expert with 14+ years of well-rounded experience having been exposed to many leading transformative projects in various sectors and aspects around the globe. He is currently a mentor in Career Foundry in Germany supporting the youth and helping for a sustainable future. Listed as the 2nd Sri Lankan to obtain the NNg Certification.
Imran Nordin
Product/Design Research Lead

Dr. A. Imran Nordin is a distinguished User and Business Experience Researcher with a Ph.D. in Human-Computer Interaction from the University of York, UK.
Currently serving as the Product/Design Research Lead at Zuellig Pharma Holdings in Singapore, he has successfully enhanced user research processes, achieving significant cost reductions and improved decision-making. His extensive experience spans various sectors, including higher education, finance, travel, and pharmaceuticals, where he has directed user research initiatives that align with business objectives.
Previously, he held senior roles at AirAsia and CIMB Malaysia, focusing on transforming customer journeys through strategic research methodologies. He is also an accomplished mentor, having supervised numerous research students and led collaborative projects that received substantial funding. His contributions to the field are recognised through awards and publications in international journals, reflecting his commitment to advancing user experience research.
