The qualifications for the faculty position include: an earned doctorate in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Information Systems, a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, a demonstrated record of or potential for scholarly research, and excellent communication skills.

Faculty Track

The Information Systems Technology and Design (ISTD) pillar invites applications to fill several tenure track faculty positions. Appointments will be at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Highly qualified applicants with a substantial track record of research accomplishments (usually at least 15 years after PhD), an active research program, and strong teaching experience may be considered for appointment as tenured full professor.

Faculty duties include teaching subjects at the undergraduate and graduate levels, research, supervision of students, advising undergraduate student projects, and service to SUTD and the community. At the start of employment, candidates should hold a Ph.D. in computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related field. Candidates for senior positions must demonstrate the ability to successfully create and manage an independent research program. Exceptional candidates in all areas will be considered, but priority will be given to those in the following areas.

  • Big data analytics
  • Algorithms
  • AI, including physiological signal processing
  • Augmented reality
  • Design and implementation of large-scale systems software in diverse CS contexts (e.g., cloud computing)

SUTD has adopted a cohort-based active learning pedagogy. Cohorts are small sized enabling highly interactive sessions where faculty and students engage to create an effective learning experience. Teaching Track

The Information Systems Technology and Design (ISTD) pillar seeks applications to fill several teaching track faculty positions. Depending on teaching experience, an appointment could be at the level of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, and Principal Lecturer. Qualified applicants will be invited for an on-site interview and asked to give an hour long talk that includes a short micro-teaching segment to demonstrate their teaching abilities. Applicants must possess a PhD in Computer Science or a related field. Candidates with Bachelor or Master’s degree with at least 10 years of teaching expereince in Computer Science will also be considered. Initial appointment will be for up to three years with extension based on performance.

Faculty duties include teaching subjects at the undergraduate level, and service to SUTD and the community. A successful candidate will be able to teach the introductory programming classes, and at least two of the core subjects offered in the ISTD pillar. Teaching track faculty is evaluated primarily based on performance in teaching.
